Watanabe, Okada lead Marines past Lions
CHIBA — Shunsuke Watanabe threw one-run ball over seven sharp innings, Yoshifumi Okada had a bases-clearing triple and the Chiba Lotte Marines swept the Seibu Lions in three games, closing the door in a 7-1 victory on Thursday.
Watanabe (1-0) earned his first win of the season in his second start, yielding just two hits — including a solo homer by Hiroyuki Nakajima in the fourth — and walked none at QVC Marine Field.The Lions lost their fourth in a row.
Japan Series MVP Toshiaki Imae, batting ninth, assisted with an RBI double in a three-run third and Okada hit a ball into the pocket in left-center with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh for a 6-1 lead. Tadahito Iguchi added a run-scoring single in the same frame.
