Japan to face Syria in Jordan capital

Japan's Olympic qualifier away to Syria on Feb. 5 has been moved to the Jordanian capital of Amman, the Japan Football Association said Wednesday.

The venue change came amid the continuing civil unrest in Syria.

Japan, bidding for a fifth consecutive Olympic appearance, leads Group C with a maximum nine points after beating Syria 2-1 at home on Nov. 27.

The Syrians are in second with six points.

The winners of each of three four-team groups will qualify for this summer's London Olympics.

The runners-up will play each other at a centralized venue in March for a playoff spot against an African representative.
