Moulson has career night in Isles victory

DALLAS — Matt Moulson scored a career-high four goals to help the New York Islanders beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 on Saturday night.

The left winger scored twice in the wild, seven-goal second period, giving the Islanders a 5-4 edge off a 3-on-2 break with 2:50 left with his team-high 13th goal of the season.

John Tavares and P.A. Parenteau each had three assists and Dylan Reese added his first goal of the season for New York, 3-0-1 in its last four games.

Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro left after two periods because of a groin injury, and replacement Al Montoya stopped all 13 shots he faced in the third period.

Eric Nystrom, the son of former Islanders great Bobby Nystrom, scored for Dallas, giving him 10 goals in his last 16 games. Tomas Vincour, Jake Dowell and Tom Wandell added their first goals of the season.

Penguins 2, Hurricanes 2

In Raleigh, North Caroina, Arron Asham and Pascal Dupuis scored 1:27 apart in the third period, and Pittsburgh made a late defensive stand to beat slumping Carolina.

Craig Adams had a goal and an assist, and Sidney Crosby added an assist for the Penguins. They've won five of seven games since Crosby's return, and he has two goals and 10 assists in that span.

Capitals 3, Senators 2 (OT)

In Washington, Brooks Laich scored 12 seconds into overtime to lift the Capitals past Ottawa and give new coach Dale Hunter his first NHL victory.

Hunter was coaching his third game since replacing Bruce Boudreau on Monday.

Flyers 4, Coyotes 2

In Glendale, Arizona, Claude Giroux scored his 15th goal of the season to move into a tie for the NHL scoring lead with 32 points and Philadelphia dominated Phoenix early.

Rookie Matt Read had a goal and two assists as the Flyers took a 4-0 lead after one period.

Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 1

In Boston, Tuukka Rask stopped 21 shots and the Bruins beat Toronto to start December the same way the Boston finished November.

The Bruins beat Toronto for the fourth straight time this season and the second straight game. Nathan Horton and David Krejci each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who have outscored their closest pursuer in the Northeast Division 23-6 this season.

Canadiens 2, Kings 1

In Los Angeles, Carey Price made 26 saves, Tomas Plekanec and Andrei Kostitsyn scored, and Montreal beat the short-handed Kings to end a four-game losing streak.

Blackhawks 5, Blues 2

In St. Louis, Marian Hossa scored twice and Chicago solved streaking Blues goalie Brian Elliott.

Jets 4, Devils 2

In Winnipeg, Evander Kane scored twice in the Jets' victory over New Jersey.

Kane had Winnepeg's first goal and added an empty-netter with 32 seconds left, his 14th goal of the season. Alexander Burmistrov and Mark Stuart also scored, and Bryan Little had two assists.

Rangers 4, Lightning 2

In Tampa, Derek Stepan had a tiebreaking goal and added an assist, helping New York extend its winning streak to five with a victory over the Lightning.

Sabres 3, Predators 2

In Nashville, Luke Adam had a goal and an assist to lead Buffalo past the Predators

Zack Kassian and Tyler Ennis also scored for the Sabres.

Craig Smith and David Legwand both scored for Nashville.

Panthers 5, Sharks 3

In San Jose, Tomas Fleischmann scored the tiebreaking goal and Jack Skille added a short-handed score in a three-goal second period that carried Florida to a victory over the Sharks.

Flames 5, Oilers 3

In Edmonton, Derek Smith tied it early in the third period and helped set up Mikael Backlund's power-play winner with 9:35 left in Calgary's victory over the Oilers.

Flames right wing Jarome Iginla assisted on both goals to finish the game with three assists.
