The Angels had been looking for a pitcher after losing Zack Greinke and Dan Haren to free agency and trading Ervin Santana.The Angels added a left-hander to their rotation, while Seattle got a hitter that can instantly take a spot in the middle of its order."We were going to try and come up with some type of offense and I think this worked out in a positive way," Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "Both players are at the end of their contracts."Getting Vargas reunites the lefty with his former Long Beach State teammate Jered Weaver at the top of the Angels' rotation. The duo played college ball together in 2004 and now will be counted on in helping make the big money the Angels spent on Hamilton and Albert Pujols last season pay off."I'm back home in California now," Vargas said. Guerrero agrees to deal with Toronto
MINNEAPOLIS — Vladimir Guerrero has agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, a potential veteran boost for a lagging lineup.The deal was announced Thursday by the Blue Jays before a four-game series at Minnesota. General manager Alex Anthopoulos, speaking on a conference call, cautioned there's no guarantee the 37-year-old will join the major league team. Guerrero will be sent to the team's extended spring training program in Dunedin, Fla., where the Blue Jays will assess his condition.

Beltran agrees to two-year deal with Cardinals
ST. LOUIS — Carlos Beltran and the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a two-year contract pending results of a physical, a move that would fortify the team's lineup following the departure of Albert Pujols.

APThe team disclosed the agreement Thursday night and said it expects to make a formal announcement shortly after the holidays.KMOX, the Cardinals' flagship radio station, reported the deal is for $26 million over two years — the same figure cited by a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke to AP.The person spoke on condition of anonymity because financial details of the agreement were not announced by the team.The 34-year-old Beltran batted .300 with 22 home runs, 84 RBIs and a .385 on-base percentage for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants this year. He likely will be the opening-day right fielder for the Cardinals next season.
