Marines-Giants makeup ends in tie

CHIBA — Neither the Yomiuri Giants nor the Chiba Lotte Marines could seal the deal in a 2-2 tie after 11 innings in an interleague game Monday night.

Playing a makeup game after Sunday's contest was rained out in Chiba, each team rapped out seven hits but runs came at a premium on a windy night at QVC Marine Field.

Hayato Sakamoto had a game-opening homer to give Yomiuri a 1-0 lead off Shunsuke Watanabe, before Kazuya Fukuura drew a bases-loaded walk followed by Tomoya Satozaki's RBI single to put Lotte ahead in the bottom half.

Sakamoto's shot to left-center was his team's first home run in eight games. Shigeyuki Furuki hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the fifth before the game was forced into extra frames.

The Giants created an opportunity with none out and runners at the corners in the ninth, but Kenji Yano hit into a double play and Toshimasa Konta flied out in foul territory to end the threat.
